I love how feminine and elegant Burlesque dancing is and how soft and sensual the moves are. A personal idol of mine is famous Burlesque icon Dita Von Teese. I have been looking into her and artists who have photographed her.

Dita was Heather RenĂ©e Sweet. She is thought to have helped to re-popularize the art of Burlesque performance. Dita, along with being a dancer, is also a model, an actress and a costume designer. She began her Burlesque career in 1992 and is inspired by 1930's and 1940's films.

These are some photographs of Dita Von Teese's performances which stood out to me during my research. I love the elegance and aesthetics of burlesque performance and I feel that these images reflect that. They have just the right balance of light and dark and are very colourful.

Quotes

I have been looking into some quotes that relate to dance and ballet that relate to the message that I want to get across in my images.

"Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music" - George Carlin

"Dance is the hidden language of the soul" - Martha Graham

"Life is the dancer and you are the dance" - Eckhart Tolle

"If you look at a dancer in silence, his or her body will be the music" - Judith Jamison

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" - Leonardo Da Vinci

My favourite quote that I have found, and the quote that best fits my message, is the Martha Graham quote "Dance is the hidden language of the soul". I am going to display this quote underneath my images.
